The lizardfolk clans of Alterra are the mortal descendants of the draconic broodfathers, each clan unique to their dragonbrood's color, much as the kobolds of the Ziddarin Tribe are descendants of Vaeleras and the white dragonbrood. Metallic- and chromatic-descended clans mingle freely without open hostilities -- in fact, to say that the clans have ever directly participated in "warlike" periods of history would be entirely inaccurate, preferring the seclusion their neutrality lends them. Though there is some debate in the "civilized" world as to whether the unified clans ought to be recognized as a nation, actual progress in addressing the issue is rare.
The individual clans -- nine in all -- are grouped into "over-clans" of three, each responsible for an island in the Alterran Sea.

A White Clan?[]
Lizardman folklore tells of a tenth clan, descended from the White brood, but the archaeological evidence to suggest such a clan ever existing indicates they may have lived alongside the snow elves of Ahdni'daht prior to their disappearance (and presumed extinction). The only tenuous link to this "lost clan" is the Ziddarin Tribe of the Everplains, who may have braved the mountains between Ahdni'daht and Al Thelsar at some point in their nomadic history.
